Lacorine is designed by Antonia Valentin Jacob. Antonia grew up in Lima, Peru and that’s where Lacorine is now hand made by her team of dedicated and highly skilled artisans.
She takes a trip back three times a year to seek inspiration for new designs and source new materials.
“The fact that I’m from Peru has enabled us to create lasting relationships centred on trust and respect and the love of the alpaca itself. I spend a great deal of time sourcing and designing my collection while on the ground in Peru which ensure each item is of the highest quality.”
The materials come from the depths of Peru under the Fair Trade label. The fur comes from the pelts of alpacas who have died from natural causes rather than being bred for their pelts.
The Peruvian artisans live in remote villages and use skills that have been passed down through generations.
“Finding these talented artisans is no mean feat and local knowledge and contacts are key. The fact that I’m from Peru has enabled us to create lasting relationships centred on trust and respect and the love of the alpaca itself. I spend a great deal of time sourcing and designing my collection while on the ground in Peru which ensure each item is of the highest quality”.
Antonia was absolutely delighted to discover that Kate and Pippa Middleton had been seen wearing Lacorine. Pippa Middleton was first seen to be wearing the Qori hat at Cheltenham races in 2013 and Kate was seen wearing the Sumac hat in 2017 and 2018.
The Ethical Hedonist Magazine passed lovely comment when they became aware of Kate Middleton wearing Lacorine.
“The hat also catapulted its maker, a little known certified fairtrade fashion house onto the world stage and suddenly Fairtrade and ethical fashion is in vogue!
The age of conscious, compassionate luxury is upon us, with the prized baby alpaca fur coming from animals that have died naturally, in the midst of a harsh Peruvian winter, rather than being sheared for their precious, soft as a cloud wool.
Here at Ethical Hedonist, we have been talking about the idea of compassionate luxury for years, and we are interested to see this capture the collective imagination”.
Antonia has been completely overjoyed by the media attention her collections have received. She now has plans to expand the range into a summer collection. Updates will be available on the Lacorine Facebook and Instagram and included in the fortnightly newsletter. You can browse the collection by clicking on ‘Shop’ at the top of this page.
A love of nature has always been at the heart of Lacorine’s unconditional passions. We see ourselves as a luxury sustainable fashion
