Alpaca Headband Care

Suggestions

  • Gripping the band and shaking before wearing will make the fur uniformly straight and luxuriant.
  • Avoid dry cleaning or washing with soap as these will strip the fur’s natural oils. Wipe instead with a damp, white muslin cloth, left, right, up and down in order that all faces of the hair shafts are wiped.
  • If the band is soaked in the rain, blot with a towel and leave to dry naturally away from sources of heat such as radiators. Once dry, fluff up using a fine pet brush or warm hairdryer jet to separate the hair shafts.
  • Store in a plastic bag with cedar wood to ward off moths and lavender to keep fresh.
  • To use the headband as a muff, position it vertically on your lap, slide your left and right hands in from the left and right respectively and simply twist so both hands are facing the same direction.
  • We wish you many cosy, warm winter days with your new headband.

Panama Hat Care

Your Panama Hat is a unique piece, handmade by Ecuadorian artisans. This means that no two hats are the same. Each has its own unique colour, weave and finish, depending on the nature of the straw used and the craftsman’s touch. It has taken time and skill to create this delicate masterpiece and we are sure you want to look after your investment!

We have some recommendations on how to best care for your Panama Hat to ensure you enjoy it for many years to come:

How to Handle

  • Always pick up your Panama Hat by its brim, or by using your open palm to gently cup the crown to maintain its original shape.
  • Never pinch the hat by its crown.
  • When resting it down, lay your hat on its brim, crown side up to maintain the brim shape.
  • Your Panama Hat is made of natural Toquilla straw and designed to be worn to protect the face in hot, sunny weather. While this material can handle light moisture in the air, it is not built for more blustery weather conditions. Do not wear it in rain as the water will ruin its shape.
  • If you do get caught in a rain shower, gently reshape the hat and let it dry it out naturally.

How to Store

  • At the end of a day of regular wear, store your hat on a hat rack or hat block
  • Your hat is delicate. Use a proper hatbox to store your Panama longer term
  • If you own several Panama hats, do not stack them on top of each other as the weight could lead to disfiguration of the shape
  • Store your hatbox in a cool, dark place. Heat will cause the straw to dry out, crack and eventually fray

How to Clean

  • Wipe down regularly (we suggest once a week) to remove dust and dirt with a tightly woven, lint-free, soft cloth or a clean, soft bristle brush
  • For small marks, try a moist facial or baby wipe
  • For tougher marks, try using the same soft cloth with a small amount of uncoloured soap mixed in warm water
