Caring for Alpaca Fibre

Alpaca is naturally resistant to odour and requires less frequent washing than many fibres. Regular airing between wears is often sufficient to keep garments fresh.

When cleaning is required, gentle methods help preserve the fibre’s natural qualities.

Washing

Hand wash gently in cool water using a mild, wool-safe detergent
Avoid rubbing, twisting, or wringing
Rinse carefully and press excess water out using a towel

For structured pieces or outerwear, professional dry cleaning is recommended.

Drying

Lay flat on a clean towel, reshaping while damp
Allow to dry naturally, away from direct heat or sunlight
Avoid hanging, which can distort shape

Storage

Store garments folded rather than hung
Use breathable storage solutions
Protect from moths using natural repellents
